First Responder – a person who is among those responsible for going immediately to the scene of an accident or emergency to provide assistance.
The interest to become a first responder is a huge commitment that takes a lot of courage, especially from a young person in a remote area!
This week is the Youth First Responder Bootcamp put on by the Saskatchewan Mining Association in partnership with the Saskatoon Tribal Council and funded by the International Minerals Innovation Institute. The Bootcamp’s purpose is to provide the participants with an introduction to the choices and training involved with following a career as a First Responder or within the Health and Safety field.
Bridges Health is pleased to have been a pit stop for the Bootcamp, where Physical Emergency First Aid/CPR Certification training took place, as well as a session put on by our friends at Converging Pathways, speaking about the stress experienced in being a first responder, and exercises encouraging youth to use the power of their voice and how sharing can help with healing and build resiliency.
We were happy to host this group and we hope that we were able to help provide some insight and inspiration to pursue a career in the field!
