Dr. Bill Howatt
Dr. Bill Howatt is the President of Howatt HR. Bill’s life has not been an easy path. He understands the daily struggle of being a human being. Bill has had some major setbacks that have challenged his resiliency, such as being adopted, failing grade two, and living with a mental health illness. He has over 30 years’ experience in mental health and addictions, HR and leadership.
Phyllis is the Executive Director at the Canadian Mental Health Association, she has been with CMHA for over 20 years. Phyllis is an advocate for mental health and works towards reducing the stigma that is associated with mental illness and mental health. Phyllis will be sharing information on Mental Health and COVID-19 Pandemic, shedding light on the emotions and uncertainty that comes with it and how to navigate it.
Denise is the Director of the Workers’ Advocate office with the Ministry of Labour Relations & Workplace Safety. She is going to take some time to discuss the current WCB Psychological Injury Policy and the new presumption of psychological injury legislation. Denise will review these topics to add clarity around the employer’s side and the injured workers that are putting in the claims.
Laura is a Safety Advisor with Service Hospitality and has been with the organization for two years. Prior to her time at Service Hospitality, she was in the hotel industry where she gained extensive knowledge and experience that she brings forward in her role today. She is an advocate for safety within the workplace and encourages each company she works with to have proper safety policies and procedures in place. Her philosophy is that zero is the appropriate amount of injuries in the workplace.
Elaina Guilmette is an online teacher at the Sun West Distance Learning Center and is a PhD student at the University of Saskatchewan. Last year, Elaina identified a need for mental wellness education in the secondary school system and co-wrote the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education approved curriculum Mental Wellness 30. Elaina co-developed the online class to provide students all over the province access to mental wellness and mental health education.
Leon is the Vice President at Bridges Health – Bridges Health is one of the nation’s finest multidisciplinary workplace wellness resources offering holistic health and wellness strategies and solutions within organizations across Canada.
The Mental Health Best Practice journey started with a group of passionate individuals looking to work together to implement best practices, increase awareness and bring positive changes to mental health, safety and claims management in the workplace. The group has evolved and grown over the years, while the focus has remained the same, on emphasizing the importance of building a healthy awareness and advocating for mental health in the workplace.
